In order to assess IT data center priorities over the next 12-24 months—and especially in light of the current global economic crisis—ESG recently surveyed 492 North American and Western European senior IT professionals representing midmarket (100 to 999 employees) and enterprise-class (1,000 employees or more) organizations. The survey was designed to answer the following questions:

• What are organizations’ general spending plans for IT products and services in 2009 and beyond?
• To what extent are those plans impacted by the current global economic crisis?

• What is driving the changes between 2008 spending and 2009 planned spending?
• Which IT initiatives do organizations feel are least likely to be impacted by current or future IT budget reductions? Conversely, which initiatives are most likely to be cut from IT’s wish list?
• Within specific technology segments—such as servers/virtualization, storage, networking, security, and information management—which initiatives and technologies within those segments will sustain investment?
